Random Glory

Well, I noticed tonight that some people still come over here for the pictures and thoughts...I guess I should update the site from time to time. So without further ado:

It was a cool and peaceful morning in the Mojave desert, and I couldn't help but be drawn to the wind blown patterns in the sand. Even the most random minutia of God's creation holds a singular beauty that is another facet of His glory. It is hard not to see the marks of God's glory on such a morning.

Peaceful Rest

How wonderful it is to hold a newborn...they are truly a precious gift, and a constant reminder of our own dependence on God. This is a picture of Steven George on day two of his life in this world. I pray that he will grow to rest secure in the grace of God, and I also pray that God will give me a spirit of rest in His care.

Alien Tree

This picture was not taken with visible light; it is an Infra-red picture. Even though this portion of the light spectrum is there, all the time, we cannot see it. When we filter out the visible light and take the picture, we can see our world in a different light. At first, this picture may feel alien and mysterious, but then it is strangely familiar as well. When I look at it, I am reminded that I am not of this world. Jesus Christ has redeemed me and the Holy Spirit has renewed me, so that there is something all together alien about me, even though I still bear some resemblance to the familiar. That difference is the light of the glory of our Lord Jesus shining brightly in and through me, regardless of our twisted world.

Thistles and Blooms

It seems that sometimes the most beautiful things are easily missed. As I pushed past this prickly little plant, I almost didn't see the lovely little purple flower. It reminds me to see the good, even in those life situations that bring some prickles. I looked closer, I found this little beetle crawling along! I still don't know what kind of bug it is. I think it is a ladybug imposter!

I just love the color yellow. It is vibrant, full of life, and impossible to miss. Anything in a bright yellow will stick out and say, "Look at me! Look at me!" At the same time, there is this little caterpillar, that is easy to miss. When I started to take the picture, I didn't see it, but then it came into focus and was visible. I hope that in my life, Jesus Christ is boldly proclaimed, like this flower, and I hope that I am only visible if you look carefully. Far too often it is the other way around...

While Martha was gone, my brother in law and sister invited me and the kids to an airshow at Travis Air Force base. The boys were espesially enamored with the big, fast, and loud airplanes. Here are a few pics from the show:

I am whole again!

Well, my wife had a great weekend, and now she is back. My rose needs to be whole, now:

I'll post about my oldest two children later this week...
